Forestry Technician

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Operates and repairs chainsaws. Performs all aspects of wildand and prescribed fire operations including preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up. Collects fire weather data, fuel weather data, fuel and/or soil moisture samples, map projects, and maintains records. Drives engine to locations and positions engine in appropriate locations in consideration of safety of crew and equipment. Performs and directs others in starting pump engine, priming pump, adjusting engine speed and pump valves, laying hose, and using appropriate nozzles and nozzle adjustments. Loads helicopter personnel and cargo and completes inventory of personnel and equipment. Gathers and considers information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents. Responsible for operation and maintenance of specialized equipment used to respond to wildland and prescribed fire situations. Participates in wildand fire and safety training in the techniques, practices, and methods of fire suppression and in the safe, efficient operation and use of tools, equipment, and vehicles used in fireline activities, with emphasis on those used in the particular function assigned. May inventory fuel beds, prepare associated reports, perform hazard fuel reduction projects, monitor burning conditions, pile vegetation debris and act in assigned positions such as ignition or holding specialist or other designated positions. Experience:
One year specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04). Examples of specialized experience include on-the-line wildland fire experience in forest/range fire control, prevention or suppression work as a skilled wildland firefighter. Wildland fire experience is defined as any non-structure fire that occurs in the wildland. This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal or equivalent private sector fire position. Periods of wildland firefighting experience gain through militia and rural fire departments can also be credited. OR Education:
Successfully completion of a full 4--year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. OR Combination of experience and education:
Applicants must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education, as described above. To compute this, first determine your education as a percentage of the education requirement; and then determine your specialized experience as a percentage; add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Note:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. This key fire management position is categorized under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard as a Senior Wildland Firefighter Moderate Risk. //www.ifpm.nifc.gov. Prior experience in wild land firefighting is required in order to carry out the duties of this position. You will not be considered for this position if you do not have prior wild land firefighting experience. Selective Factors:
Applicants must possess all of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position at GS-5 grade level:
1. Meet the NWCG qualifications for Fire Fighter Type 1 (FFT1); 2. Completion of the required training, S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior Selectees for IFPM positions requiring currency will be required to obtain and maintain currency for the NWCG qualifications listed above. NOTE:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
